A car that police say was being used as a getaway vehicle after a shoplifting incident at a Delray Beach Publix store crashed into a police cruiser Tuesday, with one suspect having fled the scene after.
Police were called to the Publix at 4771 W. Atlantic Avenue, the department said in a statement. The store is located near the intersection with Military Trail in what is known as the “Delray Plaza” shopping center. After shoplifting items, police said, the suspect fled to a vehicle that collided with a police car in the plaza’s parking lot.
“The driver was caught, but the passenger is still at large,” the statement said. “The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.”
The passenger fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood, according to police. The name of the person arrested was not immediately available.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Delray Beach police at 561-243-7888.
