Boca Raton police have identified the man killed Wednesday during an encounter with law enforcement.
The incident, reported shortly before 12 noon, led to hours of street closures near city hall. There are few confirmed details, however it is known that an officer did fire at the man, who died on scene. He was identified as Morey Clemmons, 39, whose address is unknown.
Court records show Clemmons had a criminal history, having been arrested in July on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and theft. The records show Clemmons was sentenced to a probationary term on those charges after pleading guilty and spending 60 days in detention at the Palm Beach County Jail.
In September, he had been reported missing, prompting police to put out a public request for assistance. He was located safely in October. Public records show that, previously, Clemmons had resided in Broward County.
