The hyper-competitive world of fast casual burrito joints in Palm Beach County is getting a new participant: Qdoba, the San Diego-based chain that has put up a solid challenge to competitors in the space.
Qdoba is planning three restaurants locally – one in Boca Raton and two in Delray Beach. The first location to open this Thursday, May 1, is the West Delray location, at 7655 W. Atlantic Avenue, just east of the Florida’s Turnpike interchange. Signage for the restaurant first appeared last summer, and opening dates have announced – then delayed – several times. The company has now formally announced that the restaurant will open Thursday, with a special event for first responders and “friends and family” planned Wednesday.
The fast casual burrito and Tex-Mex market in Palm Beach County has been growing rapidly in recent years. Industry staple Chipotle operates dozens of locations in the county, with Moe’s Southwest Grill expanding at a steady pace as well. Bubbakoo’s Burrito’s, a beloved chain from the Jersey Shore, opened its first location in Boca Raton late last year. Tijuana Flats, another growing chain, has recently opened in Deerfield Beach.

Qdoba is known for its made-to-order burritos, tacos and similar dishes, and is often praised for including guacamole and queso cheese with meals – additions that cost several dollars each at Chipotle and most other competitors. Qdoba also serves breakfast, which remains relatively uncommon in the world of quick-serve Mexican restaurants.
The West Delray restaurant is owned by local franchisee Michael Guiffre, who has already opened a location in Davie and is planning future locations on Federal Highway in East Delray, Champions Boulevard in Boca Raton and another in North Miami. The West Delray location will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily starting Thursday. On Wednesday – one day before the grand opening – the restaurant is hosting a “Heroes, Friends and Family” preview event.
