Police in Boca Raton are searching for a woman who is alleged to have targeted a shopper who purchased a valuable bag at a store in the Town Center Mall with a pepper spray attack.
According to a statement, Boca Raton police were called to the mall’s east parking lot just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a robbery.
As the victim was walking towards her vehicle from the mall with a shopping bag, the suspect approached and pepper-sprayed the victim before pulling at the handle of her shopping bag, Officer Jessica Desir said.
A struggle ensued and the suspect fled on foot without possession of the bag. The victim sustained minor injuries, Desir said.
The suspect is described as a white female of average height, approximately 30 to 50 years old, with brown hair. She was wearing a light colored shirt and dark pants.
Officers conducted a search of the area and the suspect was not located, according to the statement.
“At this point in the investigation, it appears the victim was followed out of a department store after purchasing a luxury handbag,” Desir said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Detective Dale Graham at (561) 620-6175.
